A lot of humans still don’t understand the fundamental threat they face everyday from squirrels. If it weren’t for the united effort of countless dogs everyday, the squirrels would become the dominant mammal on the planet. Once squirrels ruled the world it would be very hard to talk one into driving you to the store since their legs aren’t long enough to reach the pedals. I found a great video today illustrating just how aggressive these little demon rats are, in it a squirrel attacks a deer. While most humans still they they are cute, just look how quickly this deer is taken down.
I tried to stay up and watch Dick Clark last night but football always makes me sleepy. I ended up sleeping right through midnight only to wake up at 3 am to have to go outside. I’ve spent some time thinking about my New Year’s resolutions and I’ve finished my list.
Give more kisses. People seem to like it when you lick their faces and I like to make people happy.
Spend more time studying the squirrels. I know I’m close to a major breakthrough here.
Stop barking inside. (Scott made me add this one.)
Happy New Year everyone, I hope you healthy and happy new year filled with itches and delicious treats. By the way, although it may look like it, I was not hungover in this picture.
We packed up the car and headed back home today. I’m usually very excited about car rides but after learning that they can go on for twelve hours, I was a little hesitant to get going today. I rode in the back seat like I always do for the first several hours but eventually decided that it would be better to ride in Kendyle’s lap in the front seat. Still. Very. Tired. Woof.
Santa was really good to me this year since I had been such a good girl, he brought me some treats and some fun new toys. I’m always watchful at night and usually the slightest noise wakes me up so I’m still not sure how he was able to sneak in and fill my stocking. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. Woof.
I didn’t even think that cars went that far but today we drove all day. I slept mostly and every few hours we stopped to I could smell around and figure out where we were. I got to smell five different states in one day. Woof. Tired. Woof.
I recently found footage of the squirrel whisperer, an insanely brave but foolish man who tried to befriend the squirrels. In the video below he even captured a squirrel eating a potato chip right out of his mouth. Sadly the squirrel later came back and ate him.
Today Scott took me for a ride to visit my dog friends Taylor and Wade. Taylor is my best friend and a yellow lab a few months younger than me. Wade is her sugar daddy, a 12 year old black lab. The car ride was a little more jostling than usual, all those people out buying things really got in the way and we had to stop a lot. Taylor and Wade were doing well and we had an excellent time playing in their yard and Austin made dog cookies for us. Peanut butter cookies, carob chip cookies, and peanut butter oatmeal honey cookies. Mmmmm cooookies.
Over the last two years I have been doing some very close analysis of the behavior of the squirrels that try to invade my yard. Through hours of careful observation from my secret observation post I’ve learned that they are far more intelligent than most people and dogs have previously believed. I’ve seen organization, team building exercises and what has to be a calculated and intentional testing of my perimeter. I know they are watching me when I’m outside in the yard. I know they test doors and windows to see if they can sneak inside. If it weren’t for my barking they would have invaded the house long ago. I’m continuing my research and will share my findings with you as I can validate my theories.
I have never flown and never plan to. Why would any dog want to get in a plane when cars and boats are just so much fun? Planes are closer to birds but I prefer to ride with my head out the window and from what I understand this wouldn’t work in an airplane. Check out this video of a dog experiencing zero gravity, it’s a perfect example of why planes suck.
We all went up to Petsmart today to see Santa Claws so he would know what to bring me for Christmas (more chewies and toys!). It was so great - all his elves were there too. I got to give him kisses just like last year and they gave me lots of treats. I felt good too because a portion of my picture’s proceeds are given to charities that help puppies less fortunate than I am. Mom got me some new dentabones and beggin strips so I was a happy camper when we got back home. Only 8 more days till Christmas - can’t wait to tell y’all what I got!
